Son of Man, Son of God

As I was preparing this week's sermon on the Son of Man, I have been so struck by these two realities. First, the absolute supremacy of Christ over all things. So much so that everything we see, touch, everyone we talk to or know, all nations, continents, stars and galaxies are His. And every person will one day stand before Him and give an account. I have been reminding myself this week of this even when I am driving "that person will stand before Christ...so will she, etc". It is sobering and leads to my next thought. Secondly, how unprepared and shocked beyond words will so many people be when they are suddenly called to that moment. Think of it...my neighbors, family, all politicians, musicians, college professors...everyone will stand, then kneel and call Jesus Christ (Son of Man, Son of God)..."Lord". What a motivation to evangelism. To proclamation, and loving warning.

I have also realized in a fresh way that the gospel is not "try Jesus you may like Him...He may help". It is that God has exalted Him to the place of highest authority, "He is your Lord. He is coming to judge. Yet now your Lord is extending a hand...a nail scared hand..and is saying let's have peace, let's be reconciled, I offer you a complete pardon, I offer you eternal life. So far you have rebelled and resisted my Lordship. But before it's too late I lovingly call you to be reconciled to me". What grace! What mercy!!
